The Cloud House

A collaboration with Patrick Massey and Sebastian Hornsby

The pavilion looks to explore the absence of a roof as the fifth elevation-both literally and metaphorically - by projecting the sky to its audience through  fragmented lens.

The 4th elevation is that of a pitched roof is based on the profile of the neighbouring children’s museum. It forms an envelope and a barrier to the outside world. This elevation is blank and devoid of windows except for the entrance openings, it does not reveal anything of the intriguing world inside.

Upon entering the central space of the pavilion, the 5th elevation is revealed. In this surprising middle, the sky is seen reflected in fragmented mirrors. The mirrors become a device to orchestrate surreal moments.  The canopies and leaves of the surroundings trees can bee seen blowing in the wind, a bird flying past, above can bee seen in another fragment.

The Builder's yard in the AR Exciting stuff.

JUDGE'S COMMENT

‘A very interesting idea for a schoool that takes the apprenticeship model to the extreme. The evolving edifice is both a permanent laboratory for construction and a changing high-rise monument for the city. It could provide the environment to push the boundaries of construction techniques.’
