"Out of My Tree is a community arts and environment event. We aim to reconnect people with nature. We work with schools, businesses, and community groups to share our skills and knowledge of recycled crafts and natural materials; and provoke thinking about the value of nature and our environment.

The need for environmental awareness is becoming increasingly acknowledged across the world, both by government and lay organisations. Out of My Tree approaches environmental issues from an arts perspective, providing an experience and atmosphere that encourage delight and love for nature, thereby nurturing environmental responsibility without the need for laws, regulations or scare tactics." Rachel and Izzi from Out-Of-My-Tree.

An Exhibition ran from the 7th of October for one month, at Leeds Central Library Exhibition Space (Between Leeds Art Gallery and Art Library). Steven McCloy, Bongani Muchemwa and Daniel Mason were amongst the contributors- works included the bicycle generator and bottle ecosystems (both previously mentioned in Architect's Journal), Bongani's first year project and combined effort to realise a structure informed by nature. The same geometry was used as in the Google Sketchup Design It competition, the material was salvaged cardboard (to fit with the Out-Of-My-Tree ethos) and each triangular module was cut by hand using a wooden template and a craft knife (High-Tech!)
Thanks to Izzi and Rachel, Batiste and Steve Morant
